SUMMARY:
Responsible for the overall direction to the engineering function through the development of site engineering procedures consistent with organizational requirements and corporate standards. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with site and corporate management to plan and implement operational improvements and / or expansions (e.g. inclusive of management reviews / communications, resource identification and planning, risk vs cost / benefit analyses, etc.)
- Provide direct plant expansion oversight of engineering and CM contractors including but not limited to: meeting established critical construction and equipment delivery time lines. Provide analysis of competitive equipment and sub-contractor bids. 
- Overall site responsibility for safety inclusive of meetings, programs and communications with corporate management and outside parties.
- The duties include providing leadership, guidance, and personnel development from both administrative and technical base:
- Lead and support equipment and facility modifications and upgrades for automated systems.  Identify new automation technologies that may enhance site operations.
- Demonstrate technical knowledge to write detailed equipment/facility specifications in relation to process control systems and related technology.
- Assist in the monitoring and control of all technical, financial, and managerial tasks associated with engineering project execution from conception and through design, construction and validation.
- "Hands-on” Engineering/Maintenance activities; interface (as directed by corporate and site senior management) with external regulatory organizations such as the EPA, DEA, the FDA, insurance investigators, the building/fire commissioner, and others; on behalf of the site.
- Responsible for site fire detection / prevention and intruder / security systems design, installation and maintenance.  The incumbent must also provide computerization expertise to engineering related programs and management tools.   
- Facilitate yearly (or more frequent as needed) planned obsolescence analysis, maintenance of equipment inventory system, and resulting annual site capital planning and budget recommendations (and tracking against such corporate-approved plans). 
- Lead and support facility calibration program.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists site leadership in establishing justified baseline and target metrics for key business / functional processes.
- Identification, analysis and recommendation of state-of-the-art facility / utility / equipment alternatives to current site technology – that represent potential quality, cost and / or productivity improvements.
- Interviewing, recommending, training, and directing outside contractors for relating engineering work.
- Appraising engineering work performance, and identifying / resolving related personnel or technical issues.
- Develops site / departmental Standard Operating Procedures (within the established quality system and change control process) as needed to address internal engineering / safety programming criteria.   



Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field, Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years related experience and 4 years managerial experience.
JOB PREREQUISITES:
Ability to meet attendance standards.  All full-time employees are required to work a 40-hr week.  At times it may be necessary to work additional hours in order to get the required tasks accomplished to meet deadlines.
